A New Look

The makeover project that resulted in The CPA Journal you are holding was a long time in the making. It represents the most significant change to the structure and appearance of the magazine since March 1972, when a section called “News & Views” joined the “Articles” and “Departments” sections that had been the bulk of the magazine’s pages, and April 1985, when the Journal had its first full-color cover.

In the redesigned magazine here, subject matter takes priority over article length, and the technical content in The CPA Journal is now organized into six “Essential” sections that will appear in every issue. For example, tax-focused readers can expect that all of the tax-related technical content will appear in the “Taxation” section in every issue. Articles of broad interest to all readers can be found in the new “In Focus” section. “Perspectives,” previously called “News &Views,” remains similar in mission, but expanded in space, to allow more room for our readers and others connected with the CPA profession to have an active voice. Our website (www.cpajournal.com), with its archives going back to 1989, continues to play an important role as an extension of the journal for NYSSCPA members as well as other subscribers and readers.

In 2005 The CPA Journal will turn 75, and during that year we plan to share relevant glimpses at the past that illuminate the present. For now, we hope you like the magazine’s new format and look, and join us in celebrating as it passes another milestone in accomplishing its mission: providing a high-level forum for discourse about current important issues and for technical analyses covering a diverse range of interests in accounting.
