Website of the Month: CareerBank.com

By Susan B. Anders, PhD, CPA, St. Bonaventure University

CareerBank.com offers an assortment of user-friendly career and placement resources to both job-seekers and employers in a fairly compact website that focuses on employment opportunities. This site is essentially a portal service that allows job-seekers to post resumes and search for jobs without charge. Employers can post position notices and review resumes under a choice of fee structures.

The employment search service is free for job-seekers. Once job-seekers register by providing some basic contact information, they can create a resume (or multiple resumes) that will be stored on the website. Users can mark each resume as anonymous, available for employer searches, or available for broadcast to other job boards.

Job-seekers can also search the website’s job postings, even without registering. Upon finding appropriate opportunities, registered users can apply online for the positions. Employer contact information is also provided, so job seekers can apply directly to the employer without registering.

Employers must register with CareerBank.com in order to use any of the services. Employers can purchase a range of service packages, including resume matching and other proactive services, such as broadcasting a job posting to other websites. The website also offers a free basic service for posting a job without resume matching or other services.

Because submitting resumes and position announcements requires an understanding of electronic etiquette, users should do some advance research before making their first venture into online placement. CareerBank.com offers information for both job-seekers and employers on how to make resumes and job postings more Internet-friendly. Other resources include information networking skills, interviewing tips, salary survey information, and a newsletter.

The website has a well-developed network of accounting websites and provides the career center services for several state CPA societies. Job postings and resumes are available across the United States, Canada, and internationally. Job-seekers and employers have access to a large pool of positions and resumes, which increases their chances for success.
