Website of the Month: MyCPAportal.com
MyCPAportal.com, affiliated with CPAdirect.net and with partners that include General Electric and CPAdirectory.com, is a relatively low-profile accounting portal. The full membership package is available only to CPAs and costs $24.95 per month-a steep price, especially considering that, with a little effort, most of its member services can be found elsewhere for less, even free of charge. Otherwise, even for a nonpaying guest, this portal is entirely serviceable, with user-friendly categories and organization that focus on the basics of what users need.
If the portal's discussion groups are any indication, MyCPAportal.com is still gaining visibility in the marketplace: The community section is little used. The portal would also benefit from offering an e-zine, a generally reliable way for any website to stay in touch with its users about routine services as well as new enhancements and offerings.
The CPA Journal is broadly recognized as an outstanding, technical-refereed publication aimed at public practitioners, management, educators, and other accounting professionals. It is edited by CPAs for CPAs.
