Website of the Month: SmartPros, formerly Pro2Net

Pro2Net, a portal serving the accounting and professional services communities, and featured as a Website of the Month in the August 2000 CPA Journal, was a casualty of last March’s technology crash. A shame, because Pro2Net was well designed and organized. Pro2Net’s assets were recently bought by KeepSmart, a CPE provider, and the portal was revived as SmartPros (www.smartpros.com).

The portal doesn’t yet have the presence of its previous incarnation. For example, Pro2Net’s four weekly topical newsletters have been replaced with one. But inasmuch as the four areas inevitably overlapped, the scaled-down news service is not a major loss. Perhaps the new owners are proceeding conservatively. Regardless, the reborn SmartPros site has probably learned from the missteps of both its predecessor and its competitors, and is off to a good running start as a useful reference and community tool.

The CPA Journal is broadly recognized as an outstanding, technical-refereed publication aimed at public practitioners, management, educators, and other accounting professionals. It is edited by CPAs for CPAs. Our goal is to provide CPAs and other accounting professionals with the information and news to enable them to be successful accountants, managers, and executives in today's practice environments.
