Website of the Month: AuditNet

Billing itself as “the largest and oldest free information site with links, tools, and resources developed for the benefit of the audit profession,” AuditNet (www.auditnet.org) is indeed a valuable center for free online audit resources. The website contains a comprehensive network of resources available for auditors, logically organized and cleanly designed. The low-key look is deceptive, and when a user clicks a link that leads to, for instance, a vendor’s overdesigned website, the difference is apparent.

Much of the website’s value comes from the obvious attention that founder and coordinator Jim Kaplin, CIA, has devoted to tapping into what auditors want in an online community, then finding ways to deliver it free. A free monthly newsletter keeps AuditNet fresh in users’ minds, and also provides updates about new or expanded features and services. The newsletter shows a higher-than-average level of professionalism and thoroughness in its writing and organization, and the “please support our sponsors” message is direct but soft-sell. The priority here is definitely on providing a service auditors need and keeping the quality of information high.
