Supports UAA, struggling with experience requirement

I’m glad Lou Grumet is confident of the passage of UAA in New York state (Publisher’s Column, December 2000), although, after talking to some other professionals, I’m not so sure. I support the UAA mainly because it will change the minimum experience requirement. I think it will create a lot of opportunities for people, and it will mean a lot to me personally.

I’ve always dreamed of becoming a CPA, and I passed the exam on my first try some time ago. However, because for the last five years or so I’ve been working in tax, it has been extremely difficult for me to earn the necessary audit time to become certified. I don’t know how much longer it will take me to finish this requirement, but I am very tired of struggling with it. I think I have everything that it takes to be a CPA, but why do I need exactly two years of audit experience?
