Website of the month: KPMG

On a subjective, unscientific scale, of the Big Five firms’ websites, KPMG’s (www.kpmg.com) is the most user-friendly and the most useful in terms of access to a broad range of accounting and finance information and resources.

The website’s utility for promoting the firm is apparent, but so are its extensive yet uncomplicated links to current news stories and research reports (those of KPMG as well as government agencies and other organizations). In “KPMG Interactive,” webcasts of various speeches and other presentations deliver news in addition to showcasing the firm’s expertise.

A service titled “KPMG Insiders on the Web” offers free daily e-mails with news highlights that link to complete stories compiled from leading wire services, industry publications, and trade and professional organizations in the consumer products, banking, and insurance industries. The stories are concise and authoritative, most include commentary and analysis from KPMG or industry leaders, and the website includes searchable archives.

Overall, KPMG’s website goes far beyond the typical website’s brand-recognition and marketing features to provide in-depth, up-to-the-minute news on business and the economy.
