STAFFING, MARKETING REMAIN TOP CONCERNS

Marketing and staffing concerns remain at the top of practitioners' agendas, as evidenced by the 1999 Top Five MAP Issues poll, conducted by the PCPS Management of an Accounting Practice (MAP) Committee. Marketing and staffing were the No. 1 and No. 2 concerns of CPA managers surveyed by MAP and state society representatives.

"Staffing concerns are not new for CPA firms, but this level of scarcity has surprised everyone," said MAP Committee Chair Gary Shamis. "With such a tight employment market, firms need to explore new tactics for recruiting and retaining staff."

The annual survey asked participants to rank their top five practice issues. As compared with last year, technology moved up the list, consulting fell off of it, and succession planning entered at the No. 5 spot.
