Coming To America
The International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) recently announced the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer, effective this fall. Chosen was Peter W. Johnston, the CEO of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland. Johnston is a lawyer by profession, and he served at the Scottish Institute for 10 years.
Johnston will be joined by James Sylph from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, who will serve as IFAC's technical director. These leadership decisions reflect IFAC's desire to become more aggressive in strengthening the global accounting profession.
IFAC, headquartered in New York City, is a nonprofit organization whose objective is to facilitate the development of accountancy organizations throughout the world. Its membership consists of 140 accountancy organizations from 101 countries, including the AICPA and IMA in the United States..
