DO LAPTOPS AND LANS TRANSLATE INTO LONGER WORK HOURS?

Executive suites across the country are remaining well lit at night, according to results from a recent nationwide survey. When asked if they are working more or fewer hours than they did five years ago, 76% of executives said they are working more.

While the survey did not specifically question why work hours have increased, the rapidly growing pace of technology is likely a major factor. More and more executives work at home, or dial into the company's computer network from airports, hotels, business meetings, and other out-of-office locations. New technology creates greater ease in obtaining and managing information, but instant access can also increase demand from bosses, clients, customers, and other parties for faster, more immediate attention.

Accountemps, a temporary staffing service for accounting, finance, and bookkeeping professionals, developed the survey, the results of which included responses from executives at the nation's 1,000 largest companies. *
