Practitioners Publishing Company (PPC), a provider of accounting, auditing,
tax, and controllership products for the accounting profession, announced
that it has acquired privately held Boomer Consulting, Inc. (BCI) of Manhattan,
Kansas. BCI provides technology consulting services to accounting firms
to help them become more profitable and competitive. BCI assists firms
by focusing on the economics of technology decisions and formalizing priorities
into technology plans. BCI helps firms identify the costs of technology
and the benefits of investing in these technologies. The acquisition marks an expansion of PPC away from accounting manual,
practice aid type products to more traditional consulting. The plan, according
to John Clay, CEO of PPC, is to "provide a combination of consulting,
publishing, and training services to help firms survive and take advantage
of the changing technology environment." Gary Boomer will remain with BCI as chief operating officer. The company
will operate as a stand-alone company within PPC. *
