The AICPA is in the midst of a major project in which it seeks to develop
"a comprehensive, shared, and integrated vision of the future of the
CPA profession that is grounded in facts and supported by a broad 'grassroots'
base of members." In recognition of the importance of the project,
the AICPA has engaged Jeannie Patton, executive director of the Utah Association
of CPAs, to be the project director. Direction for the project is coming
from the Council of the AICPA and not a special committee. An executive summary for the program lists the following expected outcomes:
* A platform to substantiate current or future activities and programs
necessary to realize the vision; * The creation of a magnet to bring members together and forward upon
the same road to the future; and * Behavioral changes within the profession so that the profession may
realize the shared vision resulting from this vision project. The project calls for input from members and state societies and will
use outside consultants, facilitators, and market research professionals.
An external advisory council will be established made up of leaders of
business, government, and education to provide a broad perspective of the
profession and its future. *
The
