Coopers & Lybrand recently reported the results of a survey it made
of college business students. It found that achieving a balanced lifestyle
and having a rewarding life outside of work was the number one career goal.
Forty-five percent of the students interviewed chose this as one of their
three top priorities. Next came building a sound private financial base
(33%), followed by working and traveling internationally (28%). In looking
at a first employer, students ranked opportunities to reach a management
level and competitive salary as immediately below achieving a balanced
lifestyle. The survey was conducted in 11 countries and was designed to help Coopers
& Lybrand understand the motivations of those that it seeks to attract
as future professionals. *
