CPA JOURNAL SYMPOSIUM ON GAO REPORT SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 30, 1997 IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
Continuing its tradition of conducting symposia on major current developments affecting the accounting profession, The CPA Journal has scheduled a symposium at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., on June 30, 1997, to discuss the U.S. General Accounting Office (GAO) report, The Accounting Profession: Major Issues: Progress and Concerns. The purpose of the symposium is to discuss the merits of the issues and concerns raised by the GAO and how they might be resolved to protect better the public interest and the integrity and relevance of the financial reporting system and auditor involvement.
Invited to participate in the symposium are SEC Commissioner Steven Wallman, Donald Kirk of the POB, Gaylen Larson of FASB, Michael Cook of the Financial Accouting Foundation, Congressman John D. Dingell, and representatives of the Financial Executives Institute and the Association for Investment Management and Research. Donald Chapin, former chief accountant of the GAO will represent that organization on the panel.
The program will open at 1:30 p.m. and end with a reception at 4:30.
