OLIVIA F. KIRTLEY NOMINATED VICE CHAIR OF AlCPA

The nominating committee of the AICPA has nominated Olivia F. Kirtley, vice president of finance and chief financial officer of Vermont American Corporation of Louisville, Kentucky, vice chair of the institute. Kirtley will work closely with the current vice chair Stuart Kessler, who will assume the chair in October 1997.

The nomination is subject to confirmation by the AICPA Council at its fall meeting in October 1997. Kirtley's nomination, which if confirmed will lead to her assuming the chair of the AICPA in 1998, represents the first of a CPA employed in business and industry. It reflects the growing trend of more than 140,000 AICPA members in business and industry.

"Although it is more than 18 months away until I assume the chair, I look forward to supporting the institute's longstanding commitment to serving the public interest in financial reporting," Kirtley said.

Since 1991, Kirtley has served as vice president of finance and chief financial officer at Vermont American Corporation, the world's largest manufacturer and marketer of power tool accessories with more than $500 million in worldwide sales. She joined the company in 1979 as director of taxes and became treasurer in 1988.

Prior to joining Vermont American Corporation Kirtley was a senior tax manager with Ernst & Young in Atlanta, Georgia. She was president of the Kentucky Society of CPAs for the 1990-1991 term. She has also been active in various local civic and community organizations. *
