HOFFMAN RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS ARTHUR DIXON AWARD

Arthur S. Hoffman, JD, CPA, a partner of Goldstein Golub Kessler & Company, P.C., was selected as the 1996 recipient of the prestigious AICPA Arthur J. Dixon Memorial Award. This award was established by the AICPA in 1982 in recognition of Arthur J. Dixon's efforts and achievements within the accounting profession in the specific area of tax. Mr. Dixon was chairman of the AICPA's Tax Executive Committee from 1977 to 1980 and posthumously won the first award named in his honor. Mr. Hoffman served in that capacity from 1988 to 1990 and is the 14th winner of this distinguished award.

The award was presented to Mr. Hoffman on December 5, 1996, by Stuart Kessler, CPA/PFS, vice chairman of the AICPA, and coincidentally, a partner of Mr. Hoffman.

Mr. Hoffman has served as vice president of the New York State Society of CPAs ("NYSSCPA") and as chairman of its executive committee, Tax Division, and estate planning committees. At the AICPA, Mr. Hoffman was chairman of six prominent committees in the Tax Division at different times: the Executive Committee, Tax Policy Committee, Tax Administrative Committee, Task Force on Tax Simplification, Financial & Estate Planning Committee, and Task Force on Taxation of Appreciation on Death.

Mr. Hoffman has testified frequently throughout his career before congressional committees regarding all areas of taxation. He has lectured and written on a wide variety of subjects.

Mr. Hoffman recently was involved with an AICPA task force in developing advice to practitioners whose clients are subject to "financial status audits." The CPA Journal discussed this guidance in an interview with Mr. Hoffman that appeared in the July 1996 issue of The CPA Journal. *
