ACCOUNTING PROFESSORS PICK ILLINOIS AS NUMBER ONE
Accounting professors rated the undergraduate accounting program at the University of Illinois as the best in the nation, according to an exclusive annual survey conducted by Atlanta-based Public Accounting Report.
Three schools are firmly entrenched atop the professors' rankings of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral accounting programs. Illinois has dominated the undergraduate program ranking throughout the l5-year history of the survey. The University of Texas has taken second place in the undergraduate standings for three consecutive years. In addition, professors chose Texas as the best graduate program for the third year in a row, while Stanford held the No. l position among doctoral programs for the second straight year.
"Across the board, professors' ratings have been so consistent in recent years as to clearly delineate an academic elite of accounting schools," said Bryan Powell, managing editor of Public Accounting Report. Brigham Young University, the University of Southern California, and the University of Michigan are other perennial strong performers in the survey standings. According to PAR, accounting professors at major U.S. colleges and universities with four-year accounting programs participated in this year's survey. *
